Saarenpudas bridge

Saarenpudas bridge is the oldest reinforced concrete bridge in the Lapland district of the roads and waterways administration. It is a single-span arched bridge with a clear width of 4,7 m and 10,0 m free span. A bridge existed at Saarenpudas already in the 19 th century. It was so low that at flood time the roadway was sometimes as much as two metres under the water. Plans for a concrete bridge begun were in 1916, but a bridge was not constructed until 1924-25 when the present bridge was buildt to the design of the engineer Olli Martikainen. Construction was supervised by A. Jäntti. The bridge was accepted for preservation in 1982.
